I am delighted to recommend this guide to all residents of Whitehill and Bordon. You live in an area that is rich in tradition and heritage and have a history of adaptation to change and progress that you may well have to demonstrate again in the future. The reported removal of a large part of the S.E.M.E. from Bordon will entail more adaptation for your town and an in depth planning process to ensure that all possible benefits are achieved.

However, in terms of opportunities for leisure, social activity, arts, culture, heritage, health, fitness and sporting facilities you are starting from a rich and well established base. reviewing the many entries I was surprised by the diversity of opportunities that are available across all age ranges. Not just the traditional or expected clubs but many that are fresh and innovative.

I am delighted that Hampshire County Council has supported this initiative but would emphasise that the greatest credit must go to the local people who formed the Project Group that made this website possible. I would also like to acknowledge the hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers who give their time and energy so freely to provide many of the facilities shown.

Please make use of this website for yourselves, your children and all your families and go out and enjoy all the opportunities Whitehill and Bordon has to offer

Cllr Margaret Snaith - Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage, Hampshire County Council.

The idea for the Discover Whitehill and Bordon Project Group arose from discussions with the Woolmer Forest Heritage Society in 2007 who are working to set up a Discovery Centre for this area. As a Discovery Centre is some way off the Society agreed to join with other cultural and leisure groups in the area to see how we could work together to bring that vision a stage closer.

We set up a Discover Whitehill and Bordon project and I was elected its Chairman.

Contrary to belief Whitehill and Bordon has a very active local community and we felt it was about time we created a directory of all the local activities so residents and visitors can see just how much goes on here.

We approached the County Council to see if this idea was viable. To our delight they offered financial and officer support.....and this is the result.

The brochure and now the website provide two things. They gives maximum exposure to all the opportunities that exist for local residents to improve their knowledge, well being and leisure time, whilst providing free publicity and a well earned boost to our, 100 plus, local groups.

This website is our second step after which we shall carry on working towards the eventual establishment of a full Discovery Centre.

I would like to thank members of the team who have worked so hard to achieve the first two steps along this road but, even more, I would like to pay tribute to all those people in Whitehill and Bordon who are working continuously to provide such a wonderful range of opportunities.

Never again can anyone say "There is nothing to do in Whitehill and Bordon"

Cllr. Adam Carew, Councillor for Hampshire County Council, East Hampshire District Council and Whitehill Town Council, Chairman of the Discover Whitehill and Bordon project group.
